Whakatane Attractions
Whakatane in the heart of the coastal Eastern Bay of Plenty enjoys a
wide range of leisure pursuits and records the highest temperature in
New Zealand for about 55 days of the year. It has become well-known for
its active island volcano – White Island, and is one of New Zealand’s
top dive spots.
Whakatane’s sun-warmed waters are considered the country’s yellow
fin tuna fish capital along with an abundance of other varieties of
fish, and Whakatane offers adventurers and the not so adventurous, a
huge range of activities to suit everyone both on and off the waters of
the Pacific Ocean.
